DescriptionResearch Institute for Building Materials has been working in a sphere of building materials and related problematic. Our experimental activities are oriented to the sphere of: • inorganic bonded materials (lime, cement and others), • lightweight concrete, artifical aggregate production, • concrete mixtures for specialized purposes, • composite materials, solidificates, etc. Significant activity is processing and incorporating of wastes (ashes and fly-ashes from coal combustion or fluid combusition and other industrial wastes) to the different types of building materials. Main subject of our activities is testing on customer order in these areas: • Physical-mechanical examination on concrete, composite materials, mortars, thermal-insulating materials; physical properties of aggregates • Verifying of additives and admixtures for building material production (e.g. pozzolanic reactivity, isoperibolic calorimetry) • Simulation of building material production by means of hydro-thermal hardening or cold-process • Durability testing of building materials by means of various methods (conditioning chamber, equipment for simulation of sun radiation and water sprinkling) with relation to ecotoxicity examination Research Institute for Building Materials organizes the international conference Ecology and new building materials and products, seminars on cement and lime.

      Offer

      Critical infrastructure

On 1st January 2014, a new research and development centre focusing on increasing the safety of citizens, protection of critical infrastructure, defence and national security was established. The activities include research, development and application of advance materials, testing procedures and connected technologies from the field of blast and ballistic protection. The centre associates 9 research and commercial organizations and therefore creates basis for new high quality materials and products development and their following application on the market both in the Czech Republic, and abroad.
The research and development activities can be divided into four branches:
      • Advanced materials
      • Security of citizens and critical infrastructure
      • Defence and national security
      • Testing and simulation
